Position Summary
The Communications Specialist plays a lead role in building strong internal communication practices. The position is responsible for assisting in the execution of an internal corporate communications strategy that reinforces organizational strategy and enhances culture. The Communications Specialist will establish internal communications best practices and implement a plan to ensure appropriate, effective, and timely messaging. 

A Typical Week May Look Like This…
  • Manage internal communications to ensure a consistent communication approach that reflects and supports the organization’s strategic vision.
  • Utilize email management system to disseminate messages, including markup and template design, and maintenance of staff contacts.
  • Ensure consistent framing of messages: plan, edit, and produce content for a variety of internal communication channels including emails, staff newsletter, and digital signage.
  • Set timing of internal communication release to coordinate with company events calendar.
  • Organize and produce content and promote engagement on Confluence.
  • Maintain a knowledge base of slide decks, talking points, events (calendar), and brand assets (i.e. signature templates) for staff and assist with effective use.
  • Support internal departmental communications and activities organization-wide including events, projects and change management initiatives to strengthen relationships and enhance culture.
  • Stay informed and aware of organizational operations and initiatives and identify areas where additional internal communication is needed and develop a plan to meet those needs.
Is This You?

Education:

  • Bachelors in Communications, Marketing, Administration, Public Relations, or related field. 
Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • 2-4 years of experience in internal communications including editing and writing employee communications.
  • 2-4 years of experience managing communications tools such as email systems and intranets.
  • Association experience highly desired. 
  • Strong, polished interpersonal, written, editing/proofreading, and oral communications skills. 
  • Solid facilitation and presentation skills. 
  • Exceptional customer service focus and the ability to maintain/manage confidential information. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to professionally interact with managers, staff, and officers at all levels of the organization with diplomacy and professionalism. 
  • Self-motivated, proactive, committed to continuous improvement. 
  • Ability to make sound judgments on job-related matters and work with minimal supervision. 
  • Demonstrate initiative and manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Strong project management and organizational skills and the ability to multitask and prioritize work effectively. 
  • Ability to travel to other APS offices. 
  • Familiarity with HTML and Photoshop. 
  • Strong knowledge in commonly used technology platforms and software, including Google Business Applications, Gmail, project management software, word processing, spreadsheets, collaboration tools, and email marketing.
