ABOUT US
The U.S. Naval Academy Foundation helps to advance the Naval Academy and the Naval Academy Alumni Association by providing private resources to achieve and maintain a broad range of mission-enhancing activities that support the nation's premier leadership institution and its graduates. The Foundation's responsibilities in support of the Naval Academy include:
  • Developing, promoting, and enhancing the programs and facilities of the Naval Academy and its Alumni;
  • Soliciting and providing private gifts and grants in support of the Academy's highest priorities within its Centers of Excellence – Leadership & Character, Academic, Athletic, and Admissions;
  • Receiving, managing, distributing and investing private contributions exclusively for the benefit of the Brigade of Midshipmen, the Naval Academy and its alumni; and
  • Advancing the admission of highly qualified candidates to the Naval Academy by providing scholarship opportunities to enable aspiring young men and women to attend private preparatory schools
Our mission is to support the achievement of a "margin of excellence" that allows the Naval Academy to compete with the most prestigious universities in the country for students, faculty and resources. 


POSITION SUMMARY:
The Campaign Director is responsible for the daily management and coordination of a comprehensive fundraising campaign in support of the United States Naval Academy and the Brigade of Midshipmen.  
The Campaign Director reports directly to the Executive Vice President of the USNA Foundation and will be a member of the Foundation executive leadership team. The Campaign Director will work closely with the major gift, communications, and advancement services staff and coordinate the activity of various campaign committees, volunteers and Foundation Board members. The Campaign Director will also work in close collaboration with USNA leadership in generating a business plan and proposals for the strategic initiatives to be funded by the campaign.


RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • The Campaign Director will report directly to the EVP and one of 4 members of the senior leadership team in the Foundation.  He/she will work closely with the CEO of the Foundation and leaders in the Naval Academy Alumni Association.  
  • Working closely with the CEO and EVP, coordinate the activity of the Principal Gifts Committee, to include the scheduling of meetings, preparation of meeting materials, and follow up correspondence.
  • Working closely with the CEO and EVP, assist in the planning, preparation and execution of solicitations for principal gifts.
  • In conjunction with the EVP and Executive Director, Enterprise Communications, assist in the development of the communications platform for the campaign and, in turn, help produce the marketing materials in various media that will be used during the campaign.  
  • Help in the planning and recruitment of 5 regional campaign committees for the Public Phase of the campaign.  Each regional committee is expected to include 8-12 members.
  • Coordinate the activity of the 5 Regional Campaign Committees, to include the scheduling of meetings, preparation of meeting materials, and follow up correspondence.  This activity will be done in tandem with the Gift Officer assigned to each region.
  • Be a resource to Major Gift Officers in preparing campaign proposals, presentations, and the like to assist in the solicitation of campaign gifts.
  • In consultation with the VP of Development and the Director of Advancement Services plan and execute the broad range of solicitations to campaign prospects in various geographic regions, as well as prepare reports on the campaign.
  • Work with the Director of Annual Giving and the Director of Class Giving on incorporating the campaign plan into the class giving program of the Foundation.
  • Work with the Director of Annual Giving to incorporate the campaign plan into the parents giving program of the Foundation.
  • Work with the Director of Corporate and Foundation Giving on incorporating the campaign plan into the corporate and foundation efforts of the Foundation.
  • Help coordinate an annual assessment of fundraising priorities with other Foundation staff and USNA leadership to track campaign progress on funding priorities and refresh the case statement as needed.
  • Routinely analyze data and troubleshoot to understand issues and identify solutions; proactively plan for contingencies.
  • May be asked to manage a small portfolio of major gift prospects.  The majority of the Campaign Director's responsibilities will be in the management of the comprehensive campaign effort, but a small portfolio of prospects may be assigned.
  • Being able to travel, when needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree, advanced degree preferred
  • 7-10 years of progressively responsible experience in a development/fundraising environment in high education, nonprofit, or philanthropic environments
  • Superior interpersonal and communications skills
  • Computer literacy; to include proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet and presentation applications
  • Staff and volunteer management experience
  • Demonstrated experience in producing campaign materials or materials in a major project
  • Energetic, self-motivated, flexible, able to multi-task
  • An attitude of service and the ability to motivate others
  • A sincere and enthusiastic belief in the mission of the U.S. Naval Academy
  • Must be able to work in Annapolis, full-time

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Familiarity with nonprofit culture and practices
  • Prior experience and/or involvement campaign management or fundraising with specific experience in major gifts and/or individual giving and the tracking/monitoring of pledges
  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge and/or CRM
  • U.S. Naval Academy graduate or other military school attendance
  • Veteran experience
