POSITION SUMMARY
We are seeking a proactive, enthusiastic, and independent Research Associate. The Research Associate will be responsible for designing, executing, and analyzing experiments to support R&D and product development projects. This is a laboratory based position with responsibilities in cell culture, protein purification and analysis, and 3D bioprinting. The Research Associate will communicate results and troubleshoot issues that impact data quality and project timelines.

Our ideal candidate will possess a breadth of knowledge and creativity and will be highly motivated. The candidate will have a proven ability to multi-task and pivot quickly based on project priorities. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with staff at all levels is an important skill set needed to succeed in this role.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A RESEARCH ASSOCIATE…..
• Execute aseptic cell culture techniques to support bioassays, organoid development and protein expression.
• Perform immunostaining and imaging (e.g. brightfield, fluorescence, and confocal microscopy) of cells and/or tissues.
• Complete a wide variety of bioassays, protein binding assays, and immunoassays.
• Prepare biological buffers, perform protein purification and gel electrophoresis.
• Formulate bioinks and 3D bioprint tissue scaffolds and/or organoid structures.
• Understand and adhere to laboratory safety precautions and proper use of personal protective equipment.
• Design experiments and implement plans with minimal guidance.
• Employ self-reliance in drawing experiment conclusions and interpreting results. Take initiative to verify the accuracy and validity of data; correct any errors.
• Propose viable solutions to technical problems and make educated recommendations for next steps.
• Prepare technical reports to summarize data and document experimental conclusions. Communicate project status, roadblocks and results to supervisors and managers.

IS THIS YOU?
  • Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Cellular/Molecular Biology, Bioengineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong scientific fundamentals and analytical background.
  • 1 plus year of work experience in an industrial setting is preferred; experience in an academic setting/summer job/internship is acceptable.
  • Solid experience with bioassays/immunoassays/protein binding assays, cell culture, protein purification, and 3D bioprinting (or some combination of these) is preferred.
  • Training in and experience with Biosafety Level 2 (BSL-2) techniques is preferred.
  • Experience with standard data analysis tools (Excel, GraphPad Prism).
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Powerpoint, Excel).
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • 50-80 % of the day may be spent working in the lab.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
  • Ability to work in a laboratory with chemicals and biochemicals and perform Biosafety Level 2 work.
