Are you a dynamic and well-rounded non-profit operational leader committed to making a HUGE difference in the lives of many? We are seeking a full-time Deputy Director.  This person will primarily have internal facing responsibilities, with a focus on finance, information technology, and compliance. The Deputy Director will partner closely with the Executive Director to chart Healthy Howard’s future growth and strategic response to an ever-increasing demand for our services. He/she will be part of the administrative team, whose responsibility is to ensure all programmatic staff has the tools and resources to do their jobs to the best of their ability.
 
Position Summary
The Deputy Director reports to the Executive Director and will assist in leading a staff of 60 dedicated professionals in the delivery of excellent programs and services across 4 divisions: Eligibility Services (DOOR to HealthCare), Community Health Programs, Population Health Strategies, and Administrative Operations.  He or she will work closely with the Executive Director and Program Directors to identify local health goals and collaborate on solutions within the bounds of Healthy Howard’s mission and strategic plan.  He or she will ensure that the organization is run with integrity, transparency, and is an excellent employer for its diverse staff.
 
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following areas for Healthy Howard:
  • Staff Management – Directly supervise administrative operations departments (HR, I.T., and Operations) and provides them with the tools and resources to manage their functions.
  • Program and Service Delivery Oversight – Assist in developing metrics to measure key program areas.
  • Financial, Tax and Risk Management – In collaboration with the Executive Director, develops yearly budget for board approval and manages organization’s resources within those budget guidelines according to laws and regulations. Oversee accounting and finance functions. 
  • Strategic Communications – ensure strategic communications are developed, vetted, and implemented for the organization.
  • Human Resource Management – Oversee with guidance from Executive Director the human resources of the organization according to authorized personnel policies and procedures that fully conform to current laws and regulations.
  • Information Technology – Lead the information technology initiatives to ensure that the organization has the technology necessary to do its jobs, including website edits, and providing guidance as an administrator of our databases. 
  • Organizational Planning & Calendar – Ensure that the organization’s events and calendars are staffed, organized, and coordinated appropriately, including monthly staff meetings and mandatory all staff trainings.
 
Requirements
  • Master’s degree, or bachelor’s degree and commensurate experience in Public Administration, Health Services Administration, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in nonprofit management.  Experience working with community or state health organizations preferred.
  • Excellent staff leadership and operations skills.
  • Proven experience in obtaining and managing significant grant funding.
  • 3-5 years of experience in budget and financial management.
  • Experience supervising and leading I.T. initiatives (ie, website redesign, database management).
  • Strong analytical skills and experience with implementing evidenced–based, outcome driven programs.
  • Knowledge of Howard County, MD and public health experience preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge and skill with MS Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint).
