MANAGER, EDUCATION PROGRAMS
The American Institute of Physics (AIP) is seeking a Manager, Education Programs for the Society of Physics Students (SPS) and Sigma Pi Sigma Programs. 

The successful candidate will manage ongoing student outreach programs, develop education and professional content, oversee scholarship and award programs, develop SPS chapters, oversee a summer intern program, facilitate outreach events, mentor students, and will seek out new programs and projects, as appropriate. This position includes an assessment of programs, evaluation of impact, and revision of existing programs. Programs and projects are managed from inception through execution. The Manager will serve in a supervisory capacity for the associated staff and take responsibility for all logistics of programs and projects, including consulting with the leadership team for budgetary considerations.

The successful candidate will work on special projects, outreach and connections with AIP Member Societies aimed at driving forward the SPS and Sigma Pi Sigma missions.  Development of membership and SPS chapter health will include working with the SPS team to initiate and develop innovative programs to serve SPS members as well as volunteer leadership, and to expand support of AIP Member Societies. The Manager will work cooperatively and collaboratively with the Communications team to develop and carry out effective communication with all members and volunteer leadership to best market SPS and Sigma Pi Sigma initiatives.    

Located in College Park, Maryland, AIP serves as a federation of physical science societies in a common mission to promote physics and allied fields.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


Curriculum Development
  • Lead initiatives for programmatic and website enhancements for SPS and Sigma Pi Sigma programs.
  • Manage programs and projects from inception through execution dealing with science/physics education.
  • Consult with the leadership team for budgetary considerations concerning programs and projects.
  • Work cooperatively and collaboratively with the Communications team to develop and carry out effective communication with all members and volunteer leadership to best market SPS and Sigma Pi Sigma initiatives.    
  • Development of membership and SPS chapter health will include working with the SPS team to initiate and develop innovative programs to serve SPS members as well as volunteer leadership, and to expand support of AIP Member Societies.
Chapter & Conference Leadership
  • Lead initiatives to improve AIP branding for student chapters on university campuses.
  • Lead and develop student physics society conferences.
  • Special projects, outreach and connections with AIP Member Societies aimed at driving forward the SPS and Sigma Pi Sigma missions. 
  • Development of membership and SPS chapter health will include working with the SPS team to initiate and develop innovative programs to serve SPS members as well as volunteer leadership, and to expand support of AIP Member Societies.
  • Develop educational and professional content.
  • Oversee scholarship and award programs.
  • Develop SPS chapters and oversee a summer intern program.
Staff Development 
  • Direct the planning, development, implementation, budgeting, and support of all SPS and Sigma Pi Sigma department/staff functions.  
  • Provide guidance, coaching and direction for SPS staff to improve student chapter participation and engagement.
  • Administer and manage policies, standards, and practices to ensure fair, consistent and effective operations.
  • Serve in a supervisory capacity for the associated staff.
Member Society Liaison Services
  • Coordinate with participating Member Societies in the areas of Student engagement
  • Develop and facilitate outreach and engagement events for Member Societies, Students and Faculty.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Physics or a related field.
  • Master’s degree (MS, MBA, MAT, MEd, MPA) with two years of experience (preferred)
  • Experience with undergraduate advising or mentoring is preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.
  • Volunteer/leadership experiences with professional societies are preferred. 
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and carry out events and work effectively in group driven processes.
  • Dedicated interest in physics education is preferred. 
  • Strong interest in service work in physics community or related field is desired. 
  • Ability to be a team player. 
  • Must be able to travel on business as needed.
