Position Summary
The Operations Research Analyst needs to have statistical, mathematical, predictive modelling as well as business strategy skills to build the algorithms necessary to ask the right questions and find the right answers. This person will also need to be able to communicate findings, orally and visually. The Analyst will need to understand how the products and services are developed and even more important, as big data touches the privacy of consumers, this person needs to have a set of ethical responsibilities.  This position would work on in-house projects as well as client-facing projects.

The Operations Research Analyst will enjoy diving deep into the material to find an answer to a yet unknown question with a natural desire to go beneath the surface of a problem. This position requires asking the right business questions. This individual must be confident and self-secure as they more often than not will have to deal with situations where there is a lot unknown. They need to be patient as finding the unknown in massive data sets will take a lot of time and developing the algorithm to uncover new insights will often go by trial-and-error. This person will need to be able to see examples in our business as well as in the businesses of our clients to be able to plot that on their current problem.
 
The Operations Research Analyst will integrate multiple systems and data sets including linking and mashing up distinctive data sets to discover new insights surrounding business problems. This often requires connecting different types of data sets in different forms as well as being able to work with potentially incomplete data sources and cleaning data sets to be able to use them across engineering, operations, human resources, information technology, and other disciplines. 

The Operations Research Analyst needs to be able to program, preferably in different programming languages such as R, C#, and SQL. This person should be familiar with disciplines such as natural language processing, machine learning, statistical analysis, predictive modelling, and hypothesis testing. 
 
Responsibilities
                                                                  
Data Collection & Analysis
  • Design new processes and build large, complex data sets.
  • Locate new data sources, analyzes statistics and implements quality procedures.
  • Identify unique opportunities and uses for existing data sources.
  • Identify opportunities to collect new data.
  • Strategize for new uses for data and its interaction with data design.
  • Perform data studies of new and diverse data sources.
  • Conduct statistical modeling and experiment design.
  • Test and validate predictive models.
  • Conducts scalable data research on and off the cloud.
  • Designs, modifies and builds new data processes.
 
Computer Modelling, Software & Database Development
  • Implement new or enhanced software designed to access and handle data more efficiently.
  • Train the data management team on new or updated procedures.
  • Collaborate with database engineers and other data scientists.
  • Build web prototypes and performs data visualization.
  • Implement automated processes for efficiently producing scale models.
  • Generate algorithms and creates computer models.
Big Data Thought Leadership
  • Discover “stories” told by the data and presents them to key constituencies including staff and clients (internal and external).
  • Share and articulate modelling to key constituencies.
  • Serve as SME for NextLOGiK to various constituencies including industry leaders and key clients on big data and analytics thought leadership.
  • Attend conferences and symposiums to present information to wide varieties of audiences. 
  • Present big data, trends, and implications to peers and colleagues at various meetings and conferences.

Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in computer science, industrial engineering, or related discipline, or equivalent in work experience.
  • 1-2 years experience in data analytics, applied/advanced research, advanced statistics, or other related field. 
  • 1-2 years experience in advanced statistics, machine learning, algorithms and advanced mathematics.
  • Expertise in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Outlook).
  • Able to perform in a team-oriented environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize.
  • Possess  a working knowledge of statistics, programming and predictive modeling.
  • Strong critical thinking skills and the ability to relate them to the products or services the company is producing.
  • Shows strong knowledge of basic and advanced prediction models.
  • Possess a combination of creative abilities and business knowledge.
  • Data mining knowledge that spans a range of business disciplines.
  • Possess strong exploratory analysis skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as the ability to bridge the gap between data science and business management.
  • Ability to think and research creatively.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
Travel Requirements:
Travel may be necessary, up to 30% of the time (regional, national).  Would require travel by air, car, rail. 
 
Visa Requirements:
The successful candidate must be able to lawfully work in the United States.  NextLOGiK is not able to sponsor H-1B Visas.
